Understanding The Profession Of A Pilates Instructor

Author: Cindy Heller

Because today’s society is filled with jobs that require stressful long hours, more and more people are realizing that they want a job that promotes well-being for both themselves and others which often lead them to consider a career in providing and teaching Pilates Instruction.

The Important Role Of The Pilates Instructor

The importance of a Pilates instructor is to impart proper Pilates instruction. A certified Pilates instructor is first required to maintain the integrity of Pilates instruction.

With this integrity, it allows for the Pilates instruction to be taught the way that it was intended to benefit those who wish to derive value from this exercise program. The proper instruction will reduce potential injuries to the student and will optimize the results gained from the proper performance of the exercises techniques.

The Prerequisite Of A Pilates Certification

The first thing you should know in applying for a Pilates certification will mean to embark upon a career path that requires much interaction with people. For people who have a limited amount of patience when it comes to working with other people, this might not be the ideal career choice, because much of the job will involve trying to help people who are struggling with pilates techniques.

Another important prerequisite to teaching Pilates is to have prior solid comprehension of the Pilates essentials. Pilates essentials consists of the six principles of Pilates, Pilates concepts, Pilates theory, anatomy and how to relate to it, and also, analysis of posture and muscle imbalances.

If you choose to attend a Pilates essentials course, it would provide you with all the necessary tools that can be used for program design and would impart also an understanding of the Pilates Principles, concepts and theory. In addition the Pilates essentials course also teaches how these are implemented into the Pilates training programs.

Therefore it is a good idea if you are well-versed in pilates as a hobby before embarking on getting a Pilates certification. This way, the course training process will be easier for you to understand, thus easier to relate concepts to people as an instructor.

The Pilates Mat 1 Certification

Before you get any other Pilates certifications, you must first complete the Pilates Mat 1 certification course. Once you have successfully completed this certification course, it will enable you to teach Pilates classes that are level 1 or level 2.

The focus of this course concentrates on the history of the Pilates method, and how different Pilates moves benefit the body in different ways. Other topics require you to learn the proper form of each Pilates move, how to perform the exercises for the class, the name of each Pilates exercise, and the most efficient way of performing verbal cues regarding the exercises.

The Pilates Mat 2 Certification

After you have successfully completed the Pilates Mat 1 certification and wish to teach more advanced classes, you can attend the Pilates Mat 2 certification. One of the goals of this course is to teach the instructor how to choreograph certain Pilates moves to make them harder, and tailoring certain moves for people in certain categories, such as the elderly.

Where Do You Get Pilates Training

Because Pilates instruction is such a serious physical rehabilitation exercise program, in Great Britain there are government standards in place for its instruction. Although there are no such licenses or standards required outside of Great Britain, there are several centers available that provide instruction for a Pilates instructor. In addition, there are movements that demands for Pilates instructor accreditation.

If you are in the US and you are interested in finding and participating in Pilates training, one place specifically where you can receive Pilates training is the Pilates Center. Pilates Center is a full-service and state of the art client focused Pilates exercise facility which provides personalized private lessons and group lessons.

In addition, the Pilates center is an internationally renowned teacher training school that has in fact been labeled as the “Harvard of Pilates Teacher Training Programs”. The Pilates center is a company which was established in 1990 in Boulder, Colorado, by Amy Taylor Alpers and Rachel Taylor Segel.

The Pilates industry is fast becoming a truly booming business, and opportunities abound for qualified instructors. Whether you want to work in a Pilates studio, a fitness club, or a therapeutic clinic, for instance, you first need to get certified from a reputable Pilates training institution.

Since there are many different places that offer Pilates training, what you have to do is to browse through the options and find the one that suits you and your particular situation best.

Dhoni’s Success Story

Author: Pankaj Sonkusre

The intriguing art of captaincy has been a subject of discussion in the IPL matches so far. Chennai Super Kings skipper M.S. Dhoni, who led India to victory in the ICC World Twenty20, has often said that a captain is as good as his team, which explains his calm when most others combust in self-doubt.

Captaining a side with international stars and star-struck locals with a need both as a team and personally to validate price tags, calls for clarity.

Different demands

Unlike bilateral tournaments which allow enough time to study opposition players, playing different teams in a week in Twenty20 puts different demands on captains. Dhoni works around the system. He’s instinctive, with a remarkable understanding of the game.

The idea of losing isn’t feared. As much as Dhoni’s success has lent weight to discussions on his captaincy, his methods have made him the captain he is.

The Chennai side’s bowling was perceived as being one of the weakest, or rather, lacking in familiarity. Unlike batsmen left to their own, bowlers require the security of suitable fields and the confidence of the captain. Youngsters like Joginder Sharma, P. Amarnath and Manpreet Gony have benefited from being backed by their captain.

Backs Joginder

Dhoni, in his repeated decision to use Joginder as a bowler at the death has shown nerve. At that stage, a batsman’s heightened compulsion for runs makes Joginder’s reduced pace a handful. The bowler, to his credit, has responded.

There isn’t an obligation to utilise a player for his legend. In a brave decision that could have backfired, Muttiah Muralitharan was left out of the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“I felt there wouldn’t have been any assistance for spinners, especially for Murali. When he bowls his first couple of overs after the eighth over of the innings, the ball is fairly new. It would have been a bit easy to score off him in Bangalore,” said the skipper.

Biggest challenge

Dhoni’s biggest challenge now lies in coping with the exit of match-winners Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey and Jacob Oram. In some ways, the situation is tailor-made for his style of leadership to evolve. He might play down his importance but like his counterpart Shane Warne in the Rajasthan Royals side, he’ll be expected to carry his team through the critical stages of the league.

Who are Ipl’s Most Valuable Players?

Author: Pankaj Sonkusre

Who is the most valuable player of the IPL so far? The answer might be a surprise: Shane - not Warne, but Watson. But before you get ready to shoot off an outraged mail, consider our logic.

After some serious number crunching, we arrived at an index of IPL performance for all those who have played till the 30th match of the tournament - Friday’s clash between Team Jaipur and Team Hyderabad. Not surprisingly, a few of the icons figure way down on the list with Ganguly at No. 51 and Dravid ranked 88th. Sehwag at No.2 is the top-ranked icon, followed by Yuvraj at No. 7 and Dhoni at No. 14.

Jaipur, not surprisingly, has the most players in the top 10 with Shane Warne and Yusuf Pathan joining Watson.

Mohali have Yusuf’s more famous brother Irfan, in that elite club. Delhi, interestingly, has nobody apart from Sehwag, though it does have Gambhir at No. 11.

But where are these ranks coming from? We assigned batting, bowling and fielding points to each player based on his performance. We also assigned captaincy points based on team performance. We then totalled up all these points.

The batting points were worked out on the principle that T20 is not only about how much you score, but how fast you get the runs. We, therefore, worked out the average strike rate for all batsmen in the IPL so far, which turned out to be very nearly 130. The number of batting points each player got was the runs scored by him multiplied by his strike rate and divided by the average strike rate of 130.

RP Singh 28.8 214 11 7.42 17 275 292

Not pricey, but proving priceless

Shane Watson isn’t just having a terrific run, he’s also proving a superb bargain. At $125,000, Watson was bought by Jaipur for less than a tenth of what Chennai paid for Dhoni, and that’s now proving an inspired bid.

Jaipur’s other two players in the list of 10 most valuable players overall are also better value-for-money than most others, Shane Warne having come for $450,000 and Yusuf Pathan for $ 475,000. Other teams have paid much more for their top performers. Mohali, for instance, has two players in the top 10 but at $1.06 million and $925,000, Yuvraj and Irfan haven’t exactly come cheap. Similarly, Delhi’s $833,750 for Sehwag is a higher price tag than any of the Jaipur high-fliers.

The only non-Jaipur topnotch performer who sold for less than $500,000 was Bangalore’s Zaheer Khan ($450,000). At $750,000 and $700,000 for Rohit Sharma and Adam Gilchrist, Hyderabad has bought performers, but nowhere near as cheap as Jaipur. Mumbai, though, has at least one reason to be satisfied: at $550,000, Shaun Pollock is proving good value for money.

How to Choose Your Hunting Rifle

How to Choose Your Hunting Rifle

Author: Razvan Jr

Amateur hunters must give this subject a lot of thought because the hunting efficiency depends greatly on the used rifle. With other words, if hunters don’t own a suitable rifle for a particular type of hunting and to fit the hunting style, the results won’t show up very soon and in some cases, not at all.

The very first issue a future rifle owner must think about is the cartridge. Let’s take for example choosing a rifle for a deer hunt. Experts affirm that a 150 grain bullet is recommended for this type of hunting. To narrow the list, it is advisable to look for the most popular models, like the: .270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .308 Winchester and others as well. What future rifle owners must know is that standard cartridges are uniquely named so the name of the cartridge indicates the dynamic and physical characteristics of the cartridge. Hunters mustn’t forget that in order to safely fire a cartridge, the rifle must accept that specific cartridge as it can’t fire other cartridges.

Next order of business, future rifle owners must think about the action. Basically, there are four types: bolt action, lever action, pump action and self-loading ( auto-loading / semi-automatic ) action. Single shot rifles come in the following types: break-open, rolling block, falling block, trapdoor and others as well. Of all of the above mentioned, the bolt action retriever has the simplest design which allows rifles to be loaded with more than just one single cartridge. It is also easier to maintain and is more reliable in comparison with other action types.

Stock materials are in most cases made out of wood ( laminated or not ), fiberglass or plastic. The rifles that have a wood stock material are generally made out of walnut due to the fact that it is sturdy; feels good in the hunter’s hands and it is also aesthetically pleasing. From all common stock materials, the laminated wood is the strongest and the most durable available but they are a little bit heavier than others. More and more popular among hunters are the synthetic materials basically because they are less expensive and less affected by moisture in comparison with the walnut stocks.

The barrel length varies from 18 to 26 inches but all lengths aren’t available on all models. When choosing the length, hunters must think about what the length implies: the stiffness of the barrel, the length, the weight and the bullet’s speed as it leaves the barrel’s end. If the barrel is longer it will so to say “ wiggle “ when the cartridge is fired which will have a huge impact on the accuracy. Shorter barrels are a little bit more accurate but for a hunting rifle the difference is basically insignificant. The disadvantage of a lighter gun is that the recoil is more powerful in comparison with the recoil on heavier rifles.

Most of the metal parts of a bolt action rifle are made of either carbon steel or stainless steel. Carbon steel has one major advantage and one major disadvantage. The major advantage would be that it is less expensive while the major disadvantage would be that it has the tendency to rust ( although carbon steel parts are in most cases treated in order to reduce the rusting risks ). Stainless steel parts resist very good to rust but are a little bit more expensive.

As you can see, there are many aspects a hunter must take into consideration before choosing the most suitable hunting rifle. One last thought, it is very important to think about the game you are about to hunt before choosing the rifle and also don’t exaggerate when buying, not too expensive but also not too cheap, somewhere in between.

Bicycle - a High Utility Vehicle

Bicycle - a High Utility Vehicle

Author: Roberto Sedycias

Evolution of bicycle commenced in 1818 with push bikes or hobby horses which were like a wooden frame supported by two in-line wheels and the rider used to push it with his feet while navigating the front wheel. Then in 1839 it was refined, as a mechanical crank drive was added to the rear wheel.

A new design of bicycle marked its beginning in 1850s and 1860s when Frenchmen Pierre Michaux and Pierre Lallement placed pedals on an enlarged front wheel. It was made of wrought iron and wood with mounted wire spiked wheels with solid rubber tires on a tubular steel frame. But this designed faced problem of very high seat and uneven distribution of weight.

Subsequently, these problems were solved to some extent by reducing the front wheel diameter, adding gears to attain enough speed, setting the seat in the middle, etc. But it faced major problem with the front wheel, as both pedal and steer were attached to it. Then J.K. Starley, J.H. Lawson and Shergold connected the pedals with the back wheel with chain drive system to reduce the problem. Those bicycles were given a name of safety bicycles or dwarf safeties, as they had lower seats with equal distribution of weight.

Golden age of bicycles began in 1890s, since new innovations made these bicycles more comfortable. Pneumatic tire was an invention of Scotsman John Boyd Dunlop in 1888 and then only freewheel was developed. Subsequently, coastal brakes were invented in 1898. This period also marked the introduction of derailleur gears and hand operated cable-pull brakes. Soon it became world wide famous due to its high utility in alsmost every field. It was used in India to distribute milk in houses, used by postman for mail delivery, used by military for troup movement, and it also became a source of recreation.

With an advent of technology and modern materials, various types of bicycles are launched in the market. There is a range of utility bicycles, racing bicycles, mountain bicycles, BMX bicycles and many more. One can select the type of bicycle according to his requirement in terme of functions, number of riders, etc.

A rider rides the bicycle by keeping it upright so that the centre of gravity remain on its wheels. He leans while taking a turn by turning the handlebars with his hands. He uses brakes in order to stop, as the brakes applies stopping force to the front wheels. It is the most energy-efficient means of transportation, as it requires very low energy to ride in a slow speed and transmits 99% of energy of a rider to the wheels.

With an influx of technology and innovatios, the designing of bicycles has remarkably changed. There are different models for men and women, racing and ordinary rides, cargo carriers and circus use. Each model has its own unique features in order to meet the exclusive requirements of the rider like gears for racing riders, cushioned saddles for short distance riders, disc brakes for off-road riders, etc.

The use of bicycle has not only improved man`s day to day life, but also contributed for better environment because cycling doesn`t cause polllution. Moreover, it has positive effects on one`s health. Manufacturing of bicycles has led to the deveopment of other industries also like composition of ball bearings, sprockets, washers, etc., as many companies make frames of bicycles and buy other parts from other companies.

Why Everyone Loves Bowling

Author: The Bowling Coach

Bowling is a recreational “hangout” many people - it is loved because it is enjoyable and fun. A person can go to the bowling alley to relieve his stress from a long hard week of work. Bowling is a good time for bonding and relaxing with friend and family.

It is the perfect recreation for families as they can spend quality time together at the bowling alley. Modernized venues provide their players everything that they need if they want to spend the entire day playing bowling. There are always snacks and other amenities available inside the bowling alley. Some venues also have specific areas designated for those people who wish to smoke.

Aside from the complete facilities and service they provide, they also charge an affordable price for each game. Many alleys also “rent by the hour” for groups or families who want to have more time available for playing. Durable plastic seats and benches will give a person a comfortable seat while waiting for his turn to bowl.

Many bowling alleys now also provide computer scoring for a much easier and convenient tabulation of the scores. It is an easy task for the scorer to list every strike or spare and a person to be aware of his score because of the rapid calculation of the computer. Computer scoring eliminates the paper work.

When going out with friends, you may select either the ten-pin or five-pin bowling game. The five-pin game can be more fun because there is no special technique required to roll the ball down the lane to knock down the pins.

Ten-pin bowling is popular, especially among teens, as it is very exciting and fun to play. It gives a person three attempts in case there are pins left standing after the first shot. Ten pins are set in the target area in a triangular shape. There is a good chance to score a strike, or to at least leave fewer pins standing in the target area, if the shot hits the center pin with a good spin on ball.

Everyone loves to play this sport because it can be adapted to anyone’s lifestyle. It is recognized as one of the most popular indoor sports of all times. It does not matter whether a person is a good player or not, what is important is it is enjoyed and loved by all who play.

Get That Strike in Bowling

Author: The Bowling Coach

Many bowlers aspire to have consistent strikes in bowling but their schedules may not allow them to practice in a bowling alley as frequently as they would like. There are many ways bowlers can practice and improve their performance even if they are away from the bowling lanes. Visualize the performance of consistent strikes that every bowler dreams of making. Here are some helpful tips on how to get the strikes even when not in the lanes.

The home can be a suitable venue to practice in place of the bowling lanes. Find a place in the house where the floor is vinyl, hardwood, tile or any flooring that is similar to the texture of the bowling lanes.

Make a “T” shape using a tape or any marker to mark the place as the starting position. The player may then put his toes on the top of the “T” that he improvised. He will then be able to figure out his ideal step and mark the exact spot where he can make his first step.

He can then proceed practicing by visualizing the bowling action and getting the strike. Repeat the first step several times to become consistent with the move. It is important not to look down at the marker he made each time he takes that step. He should be able to master the exact location of the ideal step he has assigned in the marker. The repetition will allow him to perfect his step.

He may also perform his moves on the imaginary lane that he made. He can do the moves even without a ball or he can improvise with any round object that can roll and has the same weight as a standard bowling ball. He can imagine the lane, focus at the center of the imaginary lane, and think that there are pins standing on it. Practice the backswing and hook techniques by imagining throwing a ball at a specific target.

Practicing at home is a great way to master the skills and get consistent strikes when bowling. Bowling requires focus and imagination and practicing at home using the improvised lane is one good way to stay focused and be imaginative.

Sorting Out Strikes and Spares - Scoring a Bowling Game

Sorting Out Strikes and Spares - Scoring a Bowling Game

Author: The Bowling Coach

Believe it or not, the average recreational bowler, though capable of performing well on the bowling alley, may be at a total loss when it comes to being able to keeping score.

Many bowling alleys now have an automatic scoring system that does all the figuring of the scores for them. While it isn’t exactly a skill that can contribute to an improved game, fully understanding bowling includes knowing how to score a game.

Below is an easy way (hopefully) to follow walk-through of how the fallen pins convert to points on the board:

1. As you may already know, each game is divided into 10 frames. That number corresponds with the number of boxes lined up in a row next to a players name on the scoreboard. Each box has a smaller box inside at the top left corner.

2. In the smaller box, you should write down the number of pins that fell on the player’s first try of the frame.

3. In the box next to the smaller one where you recorded the first attempt, write down the number of pins that fell on the second try.

4. Add the two numbers together and place the result (total) in the larger space at the bottom of the box.

5. If a strike was made on the first attempt, mark it with an ‘X’ in the small box. Add 10 points (for the strike) to the total number of pins that was recorded in the previous box and write it down in the totals area of that particular frame.

6. If a second strike followed the first one, add 10 points for the first strike, another 10 for the second, but before closing the tally for this particular frame, record the number of pins that fell on the next frame’s first attempt. Add this number to the 20 points from the previous frame.

7. In the event of a spare, indicate a slash (/) in the small box after all the pins have been knocked down on the second attempt. Then wait for the number of pins to fall on the next frame’s first attempt and add this to the 10 points from the spare. Write this number in the totals area of the frame where the spare was made.

The tediousness of the process is overshadowed by the convenience of computers doing it, but it is part of knowing what bowling is about. For one to fully appreciate the game in all of its aspects, taking the time to practice it won’t hurt.

Let’s Play Duckpin Bowling

Let’s Play Duckpin Bowling

Author: The Bowling Coach

When one witness a bowling game where the players use balls and pins that are midget-like, he is witnessing a duckpin bowling competition.

Beginnings

Duckpin bowling was born somewhere in the 1900’s in the eastern part of the United States. Duckpin is believed to have been born in the bowling alley which was owned by the famous baseball players Wilbert Robinson and John Mcgraw. History has it that people back then had an interesting idea of making the pins and balls smaller. The manager of the bowling alley, Mr. John Van Sant, hired a wood turner to customize the balls and pins. The people loved the new game and played it.

By the 1930s, around 200,000 people were playing the game. It has continuously gained popularity because people who wanted the fun of ten-pin bowling but hated the stress and backaches caused by the game quickly shifted to duckpin bowling.

Why is it called “duckpin” bowling?

The owners of the bowling alley (the baseball players) were also duck hunting enthusiasts. They loved hunting birds, especially duck during their spare time. As they watched the pins scatter around the alley, one of them made a comment about how the pins resembled ducks. This is the story of why the game was named “duckpin”

Specifications

Duckpin bowling has the same goal as that of regular ten-pin bowling- knock all the pins down. However, there are some major differences between the two games:

-The size of the duckpin ball is smaller, of course. A duckpin ball will measure to about 5 inches in diameter (maximum). The duckpin balls do not have holes in them, they are meant to be held in one hand.

-The pins are also smaller. The duckpins measure to around 10 inches in height.

-In duckpin, one can throw three balls during a certain round. Unlike regular ten-pin bowling, a player can try his luck three times during a certain round. This is because it is much harder to get a strike or a spare in duckpin bowling as compared to regular bowling.

-When a player knocks down all the pins in three throws, he is merited with 10 points. No bonuses are given to him for knocking all the pins down.

One must try playing duckpin bowling to experience the fun and excitement it brings. It’s as fun as ten-pin bowling but minus all the back and finger aches.
