Can i renew my passport if my greencard expired? I know that you need a proof of identification when you apply?
My green card expired 8 months ago and I was told that I need a proof of identification and my passport expired 9 months ago. Can I apply for a passport with an expired green card?

You don't need a green card to apply for a passport; you get a passport from the country of which you are a citizen. A green card is an entitlement to reside, but does not make you an American. You can't have an American passport.
