RE: how to install CS3 in window vista?
My crossgrade of Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard arrived yesterday, I excitedly popped it into my HP Pavilion tx2500z tablet running Vista last night, as I was excited to start running Photoshop and Illustrator on a Tablet PC. I received one error stating “The file AdobePDF.dll is needed,” but I simply canceled out of it per Adobe’s instructions with a fix. As this wasn’t supposed to interfere with the overall installation of CS3, according to Adobe, I continued the installation. Unfortunately, as I was looking away, the tx2500z rebooted and when I looked inside the CS3 folder, I discovered that it had only installed Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Bridge and a few other of the more useless parts of CS3. No Photoshop. No Illustrator. No good.
I tried installing again, except this time I was more diligent in turning off all the running programs and I actually paid attention to the progress so that I could be sure it wouldn’t reboot on its own. After the installer finished running it said that it had successfully installed the Shared Items, but failed to install Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design. After searching about online and finding a few different proposed solutions, here’s the steps that finally resulted in a successful installation: 1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package. If it gives you an error when you try to install simply rerun the installer as Administrator. 2. Download and run the WINCS3Clean script from Adobe. It will download as a zipped folder. Simply unzip the folder and then locate and launch the file called CS3Clean. A shell window will open. Simply follow the instructions on screen for removing all traces of previous Adobe installations. You are presented with 2 options: remove everything except for Adobe Acrobat and remove everything including Adobe Acrobat. I chose the first one (which is recommended) and it worked. 3. Next, go to install Adobe CS3, but this time instead of clicking the regular installer that pops up from the disk’s Autoplay, choose Browse DVD Contents. Inside the Adobe CS3 folder, locate the Setup file, right click on it and choose Run as Administrator. Follow all the onscreen instructions. 4. Sit back and wait for the installer to finish. Anyway, this method worked for me after several other failed attempts. Hopefully, this will help some of you out there. In other news, I’m totally excited to be able to start using Photoshop on my tablet. Maybe I’ll actually get the chance to start working on Screaming Tongue some more, except out of my Moleskine and fully digital—and perhaps even funny for a change.
