The mom can be the best friend for a girl?
Me and my mom have a good relationship, we are speaking every day and always I know that I can really on her unconditional support. She knew how to support me in my difficult periods and always I will appreciate what she did and still does for me. She is the best friend for me. What do you think about the friendship between a mother and her daughter?

Mum can be your real support, but at the same time you shouldn't forget about other friends who are eager to talk to you and share .

Mom's can be best friends with their daughters and still be a Mom. My daughter and I sit around and talk about all sorts of things that most kids won't share with their Mom because I don't judge her. I give her my advice and she follows "some" of it. I think it's important for a girl to have someone who only has her best interests in mind when she needs to talk.

RE: The mom can be the best friend for a girl?
As I get older, my mom is becoming more of a support and I grow more fond of the relationship. There is no bond like mother-daughter. Some women go to far, they tell their mom everything, and bring their moms into their marriages. A mother should be your support and backbone, not Jesus! You shouldn't tell your mom about every single fight that you have with your husband, because you will move on from the fight...she wont! And its not fair to hubby or the family system. But other than that, discussing your desires, your fears, getting advice, giving advice, being a sister-girl-friend to your move is GREAT! You get the best of both worlds...someone who is going to look out for you no matter what, take up for you when others wont and someone who understands what you are going through as a woman, wife and mother.

I want to be a real friend to my daughter but very often I make mistakes with evaluating various situations. I think I have to read some books about this topic.

It's hard to get that balance! The way I do it is to actually put myself in my daughter's shoes. If I was 16 or whatever age your daughter is...and I came to you with a problem or asking for advice...what is it that I am really looking for? A lot of times my daughter doesn't really want my advice when she says - Help I need some advice - she just wants to talk and use me as a sounding board - and that's great because I get to stay involved in her life and know what she's up to. If you try to offer more than they really want - it will usually backfire on you. Sadly there is no magic book - you really need to just look at things from all sorts of angles - especially your daughters and make the best choices for each situation for your relationship and her well being. Most kids just want someone to really listen to them and to know that you care. |
