What kind of animal do you prefer in your house?

My children want a pet. At first I did not approve this idea, only because they are still little and the responsibility of taking care of a pet will fall again on me. If now, in the immediate feature I can avoid it, in few years time I must bring them an animal. But I can't decide what pet is right for the house and for children. What do you think?

I would take a doggie, it's playfull, faithful and can wake up the responsability spirit in your children. I also intent to take one when i'll live in a house with a yard.

Thanks for all your advices. My son wishes now ( in the last two days) a turtle. The question which I had in my mind is: this kind of pet is more easy to take care of or no? Because I guess if the answer is yes, me and my husband could take a turtle even in the near future and then we can take the dog a few years from now.

I also wanted to take a turttle, but i heard from people that had that during the time is becoming more and more hard to take care of a turtle. You have to clean the tank every week and to pull out all the wather every time, you have to clean it well because the turtles eat also greasy food and there will be greasy marks on the tank and turtles grow very fast and you have to addapt the tank periodically. But this is for water turtle; for the land ones i don't know any information.

I didn't know all of these about how to take care of a water turtle. I guess that we must think again if we will take one of these for my son.

I prefer a talking parrot in the house because I don't like the dogs and cats in the house.
